I have just finished a pattern for a ballgown and girl’s dress for eighteen inch (46 cm) dolls. The pattern also has princess dancing slippers, a crown, and classic Mary Jane shoes. Here are two Kitty dolls and a Springfield doll wearing outfits made from the pattern.

I have just finished a pattern for six pairs of bedroom slippers for eighteen inch (46 cm) dolls. There are patterns for mice, dog, and pig slippers as well as cat, bunny, and bear slippers.

The pattern set also includes a pattern for a nightgown and sleep cap. Here is my Springfield doll wearing the gown, cap, and bunny slippers.

I have had several requests for pants patterns to fit Kitty and other 18 inch (46 mm) dolls. I finally took the hint and developed a pattern for pants, shorts, a skirt, a T-shirt, and sneakers. Here are two Kitty dolls and a Springfield doll wearing cloths made from the pattern.

I have finished Christmas dresses for my dolls. This morning I took them and their clothes to church to join other toys in the November toy drive. Here they are in their Christmas dresses.

If you want to make doll dresses for a special Christmas gift, patterns in my book Learn to Sew for your Doll are quick and easy to sew. The necklines are gathered and the waists use elastic, so the clothing is easy to fit on a variety of eighteen inch (46 cm) dolls. Here are the other clothes that I made for my two dolls.

I have finished red striped, flannel nightgowns for my Christmas dolls and Florabunda. I’m almost done with the Christmas dolls’ wardrobe. I’m only planning one more outfit, a Christmas skirt and top. Here are my eighteen inch (46 cm) doll and my American Girl mini in their gowns.

The eighteen inch nightgown pattern is in my book Learn to Sew for Your Doll. The mini’s nightgown comes from my Nightgown,Smock Top, and Two Tiered Skirt down-loadable pattern. The mini doll wears clothes made from Twinkle’s patterns.

When I make a cloth doll as a play doll, I like to include a flannel gown. I think that it adds to the tactile pleasure of the doll. Here are Florabunda and Kitty wearing flannel nightgowns.

The little cats that they are holding are part of a new easy to sew project that I am developing. I’ve made three sizes of cats. Here is Florabunda with the largest cat.

This past week I made sundresses for my Christmas dolls and Florabunda. The eighteen inch dress is in my book Learn to Sew for Your Doll. The small dress patterns are free on my pattern page. The American Girl mini wears Twinkle’s patterns.

Kitty is wearing the eighteen sundress and the red jacket I made earlier, and Florabunda is showing how well her new dress goes with her red jacket.

I plan to make a nightgown and a Christmas dress to finish off the dolls’ wardrobes.

I am still having fun working on my Blue Santa Christmas dolls. My eighteen inch (46 cm) doll skirt and top are from my book, Learn to Sew for your Doll. My American Girl mini is wearing a top from my “Gown, Smock Top, and Two Tier Skirt” down-loadable pattern. The skirt comes from my “Pants, T-shirt, and Skirt” down-loadable pattern.

Here are Kitty and Florabunda. Kitty is wearing the larger skirt and top made from patterns in my Learn to Sew book. Florabunda’s patterns are found in the same down-loadable patterns as those for the American Girl mini and also my book Sew a Small Doll.

I like to dress a doll or two every year to donate to Blue Santa or similar groups. This year I decided to use my own patterns to dress an eighteen inch (46 cm) doll and an American Girl mini. I am going to donate the dolls as two separate gifts, but I am making them matching outfits for my own pleasure.

Last week I made dresses using my A-line patterns. I added the ruffles as an experiment. Instructions for ruffles at the hem are not included in my A-line patterns. I may blog about how to add ruffles at a later time. Here are the two Christmas dolls wearing their first outfits.

I am also making Florabunda matching clothes, so that I will have a record of the doll clothes that I am making this year. Here is Florabunda wearing her new dress. Kitty is modeling the larger Christmas dress, just for fun.

My two new patterns, Kitty, a Soft Doll, and Kitty A-line Dress and Short Jacket, are now available to purchase and download.

Kitty is an eighteen inch (46 cm) doll. She can wear the same clothes as dolls from the American Girl Collection. I know of two very nice doll patterns available that make an American Girl size doll out of knit fabric. I wanted an eighteen inch (46 cm) doll made from woven fabric, because I like to make doll faces with colored pens and pencils. When I make dolls from knits, I must either paint or embroider the face. I have designed a head that is very easy to sew together. Sometimes a woven cloth doll head is difficult to sew. The dollmaker may need to spent a lot of time clipping and easing the fabric to construct the doll’s head correctly. The pieces of this doll head fit together without any easing. Also it is easy to attach the head to the body. The head and body are sewn together before the center-back seam is completed. The pattern offers optional ears, fingers, and needle sculpted toes. The dollmaker may use a purchased wig or use the included instructions for a yarn wig that may be styled several ways.

Kitty can wear the clothes made from patterns in my Learning to Sew for Your Doll book and my new A-line dress pattern. The Kitty A-line Dress and Jacket will fit Kitty, American Girl dolls and many other eighteen inch (46 cm) dolls. It is a good basic outfit that goes together quickly. The jacket can be used with the sundress and summer top patterns that are found in my book. You can add buttons, lace, pin tucks, appliques, or ruffles to give the A-line dress your personal touch.

Some years ago one of my husband’s aunts passed away. She was artistic, bubbly, and a favorite of mine. I had always enjoyed visiting with her at reunions. I made it a point to talk about her with her husband when I saw him at the reunion the next summer. He told me that she had left some unfinished doll clothes that she had planned to make for their granddaughter. I offered to finish the doll clothes. He thanked me, but I didn’t hear anything more about it for over a year. Then one day a delivery man left three huge boxes on our porch. The boxes were full of craft projects, mostly cut out clothes for American Girl and Magic Attic dolls. I had not realized that I had volunteered for such a large undertaking, but I was a good person to choose to finish this project. I had most of the doll clothes patterns that she had used. Some of her patterns and their guides had been misplaced, but I was usually able to find the information that I needed to finish the outfits from my own patterns.

I could not finish everything in the boxes, because I have an allergy to wool and I had to give some lovely wool pieces away. I made and dressed three dolls for my young cousin: one American Girl size, one Magic Attic size, and one the size of my Florabunda doll. I made the small doll to use up the scraps. It took me three years to finish all the dolls and their clothing. Since we have a reunion every year, I brought a doll along me to give her each of those three years. The “reunion doll” almost became a tradition.

My young cousin is now in high school. I sat by her at our last reunion dinner and she told me that she still has her dolls and still displays them.

My Kitty doll pattern is related to this pattern, but I have made a lot of changes in the original pattern. I think that Kitty is easier to sew.
